If you haven’t heard, millions of NFL fans are convinced that the NFL is rigging games for the Kansas City Chiefs. You can’t escape the chat on social media that the scales have been tipped in Kansas City’s favor.
The NFL’s referees are understandably pushing back. They put out a forceful statement denying any wrongdoing, not that anyone that is looking at the situation objectively believes it’s rigged anyways.
When a team wins as much as the Kansas City Chiefs have, a team that will play in its fifth Super Bowl in six seasons this weekend, people get fed up with the same team winning all the time. Naturally, they look for reasons other than that team being better than their favorite team, and the reason people have found when it comes to the Chiefs is that the referees are rigging games for the Chiefs.
Yes, some big calls over the years have gone Kansas City’s way. But, they’ve been in a lot of big games, games that people remember. Nevertheless, after two big calls went their way against Buffalo in the AFC Championship Game, the conspiracy calls heightened.
But, the NFL’s Referees Association is fighting back after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell defended them at Super Bowl Media Day.

The NFL Referees Association, the union representing all NFL Officials, appreciates the NFL Commissioner’s comments yesterday about our members’ unwavering dedication to fairness and maintaining the integrity of the game.
Commissioner Goodell’s comments that it is ‘ridiculous’ to presume that NFL Officials are not doing everything possible to make the right call on every play is spot on,” said Scott Green, Executive Director of the NFLRA. “Officiating crews do not work the same team more than twice each regular season. It is insulting and preposterous to hear conspiracy theories that somehow 17 officiating crews consisting of 138 officials are colluding to assist one team/
NFL Officials are graded every week, on every single play of each game. These grades are the determining factor as to who receives postseason assignments. The NFLRA commends its members, who all strive to do exactly what all 32 NFL Teams do, which is to excel at their jobs so that they are working the last game of the season — the Super Bowl.
“There are many things that fans can worry about over a 17-game season, such as coaching decisions, player injuries, the weather and, yes, even close calls on incredible plays made by incredible athletes,” Green continued. “But you can rest assured that on every single down, NFL Officials, both on the field and in the replay booth, are doing everything humanly possible to officiate every play correctly
