Josh Allen has only faced Drake Maye twice, but the Buffalo Bills star already seems to be sold on the New England Patriots quarterback.
The reigning NFL MVP recently shared high praise for the New England Patriots signal-caller, speaking openly about Maye’s approach and future in the league.
“I think Drake is super talented, he’s one of my favorite young quarterbacks in the league,” Allen said, as transcribed by Liam McKeone of Sports Illustrated. “He just does things the right way. I think that he exemplifies football.”
Allen also believes another familiar face could be instrumental in Maye’s development. The Bills star spent four seasons alongside wide receiver Stefon Diggs in Buffalo and expects his presence in New England to be a steady force for Maye’s second year.
“I think he brings a lot of security for Drake,” Allen said. “He has that veteran mentorship that he can give to Drake.”
Maye showed flashes of promise in 2024 after being thrust into the starting role during a woeful 4-13 campaign for the Patriots. Despite a patchy offensive line and limited weapons, the former No. 3 overall pick totaled 2,276 passing yards and 15 touchdowns in 12 starts, along with 421 yards and two more scores on the ground. He also earned a Pro Bowl replacement nod.
Allen and the Bills went 1-1 against the Patriots on the way a fifth straight division title.
The two are set for years of AFC East showdowns, with Allen holding the crown and Maye chasing it.
