Instead, they made an example of the New Orleans Saints in a 31-point loss. They continued to let Philly’s cheating slide.

The play has been a topic of controversy dating back to its inception. The Eagles convert short yardage situations at an incredibly high clip. The tactic has proven difficult for opposing defenses to stop. Fans are beginning to see why.

Philadelphia moves early on the ‘Tush Push’

Offensive linemen jump before the ball is snapped. They get an extra push on defenders, resulting in an immediate advantage at the line of scrimmage.

Video showed this movement clearly last week. False starts have gone unnoticed by officiating crews.

The league vowed to tighten up its refereeing this time around. It failed. Philadelphia got away with false starts not once, but twice in a close win over the Rams.

It appears there was a missed false start on an Eagles tush push.

Soon after, they scored a touchdown… On a tush push!

The Eagles’ cheating was allowed to continue. The NFL made an example of another team.

The Saints were flagged for the illegal play.

The league sent out a memo to officials prior to this week’s slate of action. It appears some referees received it.

We want to officiate it tight. We want to be black and white and be as tight as we can be when we get into this situation where teams are in the bunch position and we have to officiate them being onsides, movement early… Prior to the snap, looks like we have movement by the right guard. We also have movement coming across from the defensive side.

New Orleans attempted to use the “Tush Push” in a short yardage situation against the Seahawks. The play was immediately blown dead for a false start.

Head coach Nick Sirianni noted that the Philadelphia’s ability to mask the movement with perfect timing plays a role in the lack of false start calls. Still, the Saints’ infraction did not seem any more egregious than those of the Eagles.

One team was penalized. One team wasn’t.

Called it right away, too… so it’s hard to officiate? https://t.co/gjU9oC0EC6 pic.twitter.com/yVWTUjeYQl

The call had little impact on what would be a 31-point blowout. A first down would not have won the Saints the game.

The no-calls, however, might’ve directly impacted the result in Philadelphia. The Eagles used the play twice on a touchdown drive to get on the board first. They’d go on to win by one score.
