A four-time Super Bowl champion is still putting his money on the Pittsburgh Steelers to win the AFC North.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are no longer the favorites to win the AFC North after losing five of their last seven games. However, four-time Super Bowl champion tight end Rob Gronkowski still believes the black and gold will find a way to be crowned the kings of the North by season’s end.
“I think they’ve got the most complete team in the division,” Gronkowski said on Up & Adams. “They’ve just got to put it together. There’s a lot of nonsense going on. I feel like they’re gonna put it together. They’re gonna finally dig deep. I feel like they’re gonna dig deep once again and they’re gonna be able to pull it off and drive down the field and pick it up in all aspects of the game. They have the pieces to do it.”
If the Steelers continue playing the way they have been, that surely won’t be the case. The offense has struggled to find consistency and big-play ability while the defense is playing at an historically bad level.
During the team’s latest loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 13, the defense allowed 249 yards rushing, which was the most at Pittsburgh by an opposing team since 1975 (Buffalo – 310 yards on 9/28/75).
However, if the Steelers can find a way to right their wrongs, they may actually have a chance to prove their doubters wrong, and it starts this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens.
Both teams are entering the game at 6-6, but it’s fair to argue that Pittsburgh’s last five games of the season are easier than Baltimore’s.
Outside of the two meetings the Steelers and Ravens still have left, Pittsburgh’s last three opponents (Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns) have a combined 15-31 record while Baltimore’s final three opponents (Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers) have a 23-13-1 combined record.
The Steelers likely still need to win at least one of their meetings with the Ravens, but if they can do just that on Sunday, they’ll certainly be set up to take the division crown.
