So far, defending their Super Bowl trophy has gone well for the Philadelphia Eagles. Yet, A.J. Brown isn’t having nearly as much fun.
The three-time Pro Bowl receiver is averaging a career-worst 37.5 receiving yards per game. That’s less than half of any of his three previous seasons in Philadelphia, where he’s averaged 85.8 yards per game. Needless to say, Brown is “frustrated” with his role on the Eagles.
Yet, typically, great teams aren’t in the business of trading good players. That appears to be the case in Philadelphia too.
According to the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, there is “no indication” that the Eagles plan on trading Brown this season.
While other teams have already been trying to negotiate a trade for Brown, the Eagles probably have zero interest in trading Jalen Hurts‘ best receiver in the middle of a season. Meanwhile, Garafolo indicates that Brown would prefer to stick around in Philadelphia, and the team would clearly prefer that too.
Brown, 28, has recorded 14 receptions for 151 yards and a touchdown. Previous reports indicated he and DeVonta Smith weren’t happy with their roles, especially with the lack of red zone touches in an Eagles offense that features a tush push touchdown vulture plus Saquon Barkley.
Going forward, the Eagles intend to do a better job of incorporating Brown into their game plan early and often, hoping they can end this drama once again. We’re especially curious to see how they plan to increase Brown’s workload in the red zone, to take advantage of his 6-foot-1, 226-pound frame.
