The Houston Texans are ready to get back to the playoffs during the 2026 season. Houston got crushed by New England last year after running out of gas in the postseason. But the Texans made several big moves to should put them back in playoff contention this fall. One Texans second-year player could be the key to unlocking their offense.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated shared some insights on the Texans in his latest article. Breer highlighted second-year wide receiver Jayden Higgins as someone who could break out in 2026.

“The Texans’ offense had a really nice spring, and there’s one guy in particular worth keeping an eye on,” Breer wrote. “That guy is second-year receiver Jayden Higgins, who was a spot starter last year and came on late, with a nice back half of the year (27 catches, 364 yards, 4 TDs in Houston’s last nine regular-season games, then nine catches for 98 yards in the playoffs).”

Higgins had a pretty solid rookie season in Houston. He played in all 17 games, logging 41 receptions for 525 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Higgins also contributed nine receptions for 98 yards during the postseason.

The Texans will be counting on a big second-year leap for Higgins this fall. They’ll be expecting similar growth from running back Woody Marks and tackle Aireontae Ersery.

If all of those players mature during their sophomore seasons, the Texans could even be a championship contender in the AFC.

“So in a way, Higgins’s progress is a nice little signal for where the Texans are now going into DeMeco Ryans’s fourth year and GM Nick Caserio’s sixth season at the helm—with a young team that’s no longer just full of rising young talent, but squarely in a championship window,” Breer concluded.

It will be exciting to see Higgins can impress right away when training camp starts in late July.
