Following his run-in with a fan at Ford Field on Sunday, Pittsburgh Steelers receiver DK Metcalf has received his punishment from the NFL. The ruling means he won’t play for the remainder of the regular season.

Metcalf is appealing the suspension.

“NFL suspended Steelers WR D.K. Metcalf two games for the swipe he took at a fan during Sunday’s game in Detroit,” ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter wrote Monday on X. “Metcalf still can appeal, but he is now slated to miss the Steelers’ upcoming potential game vs. the Browns.”

The fan said that he called Metcalf by his full name, prompting Metcalf to approach him and grab him by his shirt during the second quarter of the Steelers’ 29-24 win. Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson said on Sunday night’s episode of the “Nightcap” podcast that Metcalf told him what the fan said was far more inflammatory.

“I got word — obviously, I’m not condoning putting your hands on a fan or punching a fan — but he did call him a racial slur,” Johnson said. “He called him the n-word and he did call his mom a cunt. I think, with those words being exchanged and the fan saying that, I think that’s where the action occurred.

“That’s a bad combination (of words) … and it caused DK to react. I’m sure he will have to deal with some type of discipline. You know how the NFL is. No matter what’s said, they want you to be able to control yourself in that situation, but I understand.”

The fan denied saying such things to Metcalf.
