NFL Front Office Updates: Schoen, Ravens, Raiders

Two months ago, the Giants came to an agreement with general manager Joe Schoen on a multi-year extension, keeping him in New York alongside new head coach John Harbaugh. Harbaugh’s contract to join the Giants came with a five-year commitment, and according to NFL insider Gary Myers we now know that Schoen’s new deal puts him under contract for four years.

Speculation about how well Harbaugh and Schoen are working together has delivered mixed rumors, despite Harbaugh being outwardly complimentary of Schoen. After the GM’s extension was announced, Harbaugh distanced himself from the decision-making process, touting ownership for making “a good decision,” but Myers asserts that the length of Schoen’s new deal speaks directly to Harbaugh’s true opinion of him. Harbaugh has repeatedly exclaimed that he enjoys working with Schoen, but it appears the New York media needed to see him put his money where his mouth was in order to be convinced.

• According to the neRd quality X account, the Ravens are hiring Omarion Bitting to a position in their analytics department. The UNC-Charlotte graduate will be taking on the role of football systems developer.
• Elsewhere in analytics, the Raiders are adding someone with financial trading experience to their analytics department. Per ESPN’s Seth Walder, Tom Henehan will become the team’s new football data science assistant.
