WR is on the list of needs for the Broncos, but should Godwin be an option?

The Denver Broncos are going to have several positions to address this offseason. A priority will be looking at getting Bo Nix some more weapons.

Denver made the playoffs for the first time since winning Super Bowl 50. With Bo Nix leading the offense, Sean Payton has put the Broncos is a position to make a splash in 2025. While running back and tight end seem to be the big needs for the offense, wide receiver is should be on the radar, as well.

A big name hitting the market this offseason is Chris Godwin. Considering how you last saw him (on a cart, leaving the field with a serious ankle injury), he may not be at the top of the list, but the price tag might be right.

I won’t advocate for the Broncos to go after Godwin in a big way. That ankle injury is on the list of injuries that the networks would not show because of how bad it looked.

It would be silly to throw a big contract his way, but it might be a shrewd move to get a stud WR on the cheap.

Why the Broncos should sign Chris Godwin

In his career, Godwin has been a solid 1B with Mike Evans for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has been a big play threat with sure hands and a flare for the dramatic.

Godwins run from 2021 to 2023 saw him haul in 98, 104, and 83 receptions. He topped 1,000 yards all three seasons, and added a thousand yard season earlier in his career in 2019.

As Bo Nix continues to develop as a QB in the NFL, having a wideout of Godwin’s caliber would help the young signal caller. Every weapon makes Nix’s job easier. An experienced deep threat like Godwin could be a great addition to what Courtland Sutton does for Nix. It would also allow receivers like Devaugh Vele and Troy Franklin to learn from another great receiver.

Any move the Broncos make on offense has to be about making life better for Nix. It is all about his development. Without the ankle injury, Godwin would have been one of the top free agents this season.

Why the Broncos won’t sign Chris Godwin

It’s the injury. At 28, the comeback for Godwin will be difficult. He knew. If you watch the video of him being carted off the field you can see him say, “I’m done.”

A sad moment for a stud player who realized what that meant for his season, and potentially his career. As he makes his way back from injury, any team that goes after him will be taking a chance on a player who will probably never be the threat he was earlier in his career.
