NFL free agency: Browns encouraged to steal starter from AFC North rival

Finding a left tackle could be a priority and stealing from the Ravens in NFL free agency could be a double positive

Among the most important positions in the NFL, the Cleveland Browns currently have questions at the three most important ones:

The first two were well-known going into the offseason and then DE Myles Garrett requested a trade to create the third concern. While the Browns seem staunch in their plans to keep Garrett, the need at quarterback is clear and, unless Dawand Jones takes over at left tackle, that need still remains.

NFL free agency is unlikely to answer long-term issues at important positions but, sometimes, a team can get lucky. While we haven’t profiled him yet, The 33rd Team connected Baltimore Ravens LT Ronnie Stanley to Cleveland in free agency:

Stanley could be a good option for Cleveland, especially after seeing him up close and personal in the AFC North. Stanley will earn a big payday, but left tackle is a massive need for Cleveland this offseason.

They project Stanley signing for three years, $60 million. That contract would tie Stanley as the eighth highest-paid left tackle in the NFL, according to Over The Cap. Pro Football Focus has Stanley graded as the 37th tackle in the NFL. For reference, Jack Conklin was graded 44th.

The Ravens do not have a clear replacement for Stanley with Josh Jones listed as the primary backup and Patrick Mekari also headed to free agency.

This year’s free agent class includes a few left tackles including Cam Robinson, Joseph Noteboom, D.J. Humphries and Aleric Jackson along with Stanley and Mekari.

Cleveland is currently projected to be over the salary cap but could make a few moves to create space to make moves.

Would you rather the Browns try Dawand Jones at left tackle or sign Stanley to the projected deal? Does stealing from the Ravens add to the deal much?
