The physical brand of football that Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren plays has cost him — literally. On Saturday, the NFL fined Warren $17,130 for unnecessary roughness/illegal use of his helmet against the Miami Dolphins on Monday.

The first-quarter play Warren was tagged for was in pass protection against Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks. Warren’s head was angled slightly during the effort, leading him to burst into Brooks with the crown of his helmet.

Warren has been docked for unnecessary roughness before. In 2023, after blocking then-Los Angeles Rams outside linebacker Michael Hoecht in pass protection, Warren was fined $48,556.

“I got two fines last year, and I’m still doing it this year,” Warren said then. “OK. And I mean, it’s kind of hard. I don’t know how I’m supposed to hit dudes that’s like 350 pounds and 2 feet taller than me. I can’t stand my ground and kind of punch ’em. They’re going to run me over. So I try to enforce the hitting, again to the point where it’s costing me.”

In September, Warren signed a three-year, $17.5 million extension with the Steelers. His previous fines hurt his pockets a little bit more as an undrafted player.
