Colorado Buffaloes star Shedeur Sanders is one of the consensus top two quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft alongside Miami’s Cam Ward, but not everyone is sold on Coach Prime’s son.
While other elite QB prospects like Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence and Caleb Williams were considered can’t-miss (Lawrence hasn’t lived up to the hype so far, though), scouts and analysts are divided on Sanders and Ward.
Some will argue that Shedeur is overhyped simply because he’s Deion Sanders’ son. But it’s hard to look away from his superb 2024 stat line: A 74.0 completion percentage for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
In his latest big board rankings, ESPN’s Mel Kiper listed Shedeur Sanders as the No. 4 prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft. NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah placed Sanders 11th on his top 50 prospects list.
But renowned NFL film analyst and X/Twitter user @JoeA_NFL, who runs the “Money Where The Film Is” YouTube channel, isn’t at all sold on Shedeur Sanders. In his analysis of the Colorado QB, Joe A gave Sanders a D- grade and believes he shouldn’t be taken until the sixth round.
Additionally, Joe A compares Shedeur Sanders to veteran journeyman backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke.
I don't know how many QBs I am going to end up grading this year, but I would be surprised if I grade any lower than I did Shedeur Sanders. I don't think there is anything he does well. pic.twitter.com/7PsCmMEeT2

So count Joe A among the many critics and doubters of Shedeur Sanders. Will the soon-to-be second-generation star live up to the hype like his old man did? We’ll find out in the coming years.
He may be a boom-or-bust prospect, but Sanders will most certainly be a top-10 selection in April’s Draft. Even if he doesn’t live up to expectations, he’ll sell a lot of tickets and merchandise for the team that picks him.
The Tennessee Titans (No. 1 pick), Cleveland Browns (No. 2), New York Giants (No. 3) and Las Vegas Raiders (No. 6) have early picks and need a quarterback. Ultimately, it’d be a surprise if Sanders wasn’t taken by the time the Raiders hand in their pick.
