Jared Goff made his return to Los Angeles on Sunday. The team picked him No. 1 overall in the 2016 Draft. He rewarded them by helping them reach the Super Bowl and make the playoffs multiple times. In 2021, the team traded him to the Detroit Lions.

Goff struggled at first. He then turned things around once he started working with head coach Dan Campbell. In 2024, the Lions gave him a massive four-year, $212 million contract that will keep Goff through 2028.

Goff’s return to Los Angeles ended with a loss, but one moment after the game drew wide attention. The unpleasant divorce between the Rams and Jared Goff has been well documented.

Those feelings appear to be gone.

As Jared Goff walked across the field at the end of the game, Sean McVay stepped toward him. He tapped him on the shoulder, and they shook hands. They then shared a hug and exchanged a few words before walking away.

Jared Goff had a Monster Game Against His Old Team, But It Wasn’t Enough

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff threw 25 completions for 338 yards and three touchdowns against his former team. He completed 25 of 41 pass attempts. Against any other team, they would secure a victory. Unfortunately for him, it led to a Lions’ 41-34 Week 15 loss to the Rams.

Goff continues a mostly productive stretch behind center. He has passed for two or more touchdowns in five of his last seven games.

The quarterback will look to continue to guide his team to a must-win contest next week. They take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Los Angeles Rams secured a playoff berth with the victory. If the Lions go 3-0 in their final three games and finish with an 11-6 record, they will still make the playoffs. The Lions entered the day with a 54% chance of making the playoffs, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. However, those odds fell to 41% with the result in Chicago and in Inglewood.

Only the top seven teams make the playoffs in each conference. Jared Goff needs to will his 8th-seeded team back to the postseason.
