NFL fans are heartbroken for New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees over an announcement he made on the health struggles he’s endured in his post-playing career.

Drew Brees retired after his age-42 season in 2021, walking away as the all-time passing yards and passing touchdowns leader, though Tom Brady surpassed both marks in the ensuing season.

In Nov. 2023, Brees revealed that he can’t throw with his right arm anymore, and that he has to use his left arm just to throw a football outside. Brees added that, he’d still be playing football if he “could.”

The ML Football X/Twitter account reposted the old quote from Drew Brees on Friday night:

HEARTBREAKING: Legendary #Saints QB Drew Brees says that his right arm does NOT WORK due to football injuries.

Drew said that he suffers from “degenerative shoulder” and “all kinds of arthritic changes”

“When I throw in the backyard right now, I throw left-handed”

Brees was remarkably durable from 2005 to 2018, missing only one start (in 2015) due to injury. But missed five games in 2019 with a thumb injury, though the Saints went on to win all five games with Teddy Bridgewater in Brees’ place.

He also missed four games in 2020 after suffering multiple rib fractures and a collapsed lung. The Saints won three of four games without him to finish 12-4, but his career ended with a heartbreaking loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Divisional Round.
