Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel sent social media into a frenzy with his creepy comments about death on Monday.
The 42-year-old Mike McDaniel is entering his fourth season as head coach of the Dolphins. He came aboard in 2022 after a one-year stint as the San Francisco 49ers’ offensive coordinator.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, McDaniel said today was “a great morning,” instead of a “good morning.” When a reporter asked McDaniel to clarify what he meant, the Miami coach offered a gloomy response.
“Because we’re another day closer to death,” McDaniel said.

McDaniel is known for being witty and open with the media. Love him or hate him, the man knows how to work a crowd of reporters better than most other coaches (right, Bill Belichick?)
Miami missed the playoffs last year with an 8-9 record, with star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missing six games. Tagovailoa won six of his 11 starts, so there’s no telling how far Miami could have gone if he played all 17 games.
The Dolphins will kick off the 2025 season with a road game against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sept. 7 (1:00 p.m. EST). Miami has won four straight season openers under Tagovailoa, including a thrilling comeback win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last year.
