Pro Football Rumors
Brazil will once again play host to an NFL game in 2026. It is not the only South American market being contemplated for future contests, though.
SportsBoom’s Jason La Canfora reports owners are interested in further exploration of South America with respect to staging NFL games there. In particular, Argentina could be mentioned as a destination in the future. São Paulo, Brazil hosted a regular-season game in 2024 and again last season. The NFL will now play at least three games in Rio de Janeiro across the next five years.
While that will ensure a sustained Brazilian presence for the league, it would come as no surprise if the league looked into other South American possibilities down the road. In that event, Argentina would represent a logical next step. It will be interesting to see if the NFL’s fact-finding missions spread there in the near future.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft recently made it known he would like to see his team play in Scotland. Boston and Glasgow are in the process of becoming sister cities, and the influx of Scottish soccer fans in the Boston area during the opening weeks of the FIFA World Cup was well-received. Kraft and other owners could look to Scotland as a new destination, although ESPN’s Mike Reiss reports nothing is imminent on that front. No “active” process is currently ongoing with respect to preparing for a Scotland game, per Reiss.
Nevertheless, continued expansion of the NFL’s international market will no doubt remain high on the league’s priority list. A record number of overseas games will be played in 2026, with Australia and France representing first-time destinations. If the group of locations for international games is to grow larger over the near future, Argentina and Scotland will be among the countries to monitor.
