An unnamed NFL executive thinks the Pittsburgh Steelers are in for a disaster if they end up landing 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is notorious for publicly calling out teammates and coaches, and that probably will not mesh well with hot-tempered wide receivers DK Metcalf and George Pickens.
“Rodgers with Pickens and DK, if it’s not ‘Hard Knocks,’ it had better be,” an exec said to The Athletic’s Mike Sando. “I can’t think of a worse combination for all this to play out. In what world do you look at DK and go, ‘Let’s give that guy ($30 million) a year and trade a 2 for him?’ That struck me as, you are in on Brandon Aiyuk, you’ve been in on all these guys, you have not gotten them, and you finally found one. Maybe Tomlin brings out the best in him. I could see elements of why they like it. Pairing him with Rodgers seems odd.”

Rodgers threw Mike Williams under the bus for running a wrong route last year and had issues getting on the same page with Garrett Wilson. Former Steelers free safety Ryan Clark also sees Rodgers’ as an odd personality fit with Metcalf and Pickens. He also envisions Rodgers and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith not being on the same page.
Smith had a falling out with Russell Wilson this past year for calling audibles at the line of scrimmage. Do you think the four-time league MVP is going to listen to Smith?
“You could have a locker room that has to adjust to not only Aaron Rodgers, but Arthur Smith and Aaron Rodgers trying to figure out who’s going to win the battle of what they want the offense to be,” Clark said on ESPN’s Get Up. “We know what Arthur Smith wants. He wants to run the football, he wants to get into play-action pass. That’s not the way Aaron Rodgers likes to play football.
“It looks great that you got DK Metcalf and Georgie Pickens out there, but you got two crashouts. So you gonna have two crashouts at wide receiver and then add the quiet crashout at quarterback? Hell nah.”
