With Aaron Rodgers time with the New York Jets likely coming to an end, speculation persists about where Rodgers will play next season, if at all. According to an ESPN insider, however, the controversial 41-year-old quarterback could be announcing his retirement imminently.

While the New York Jets went into the 2024 season with Super Bowl expectations, their season was largely over before it started as head coach Robert Saleh was fired after just five weeks with the Jets sitting at 2-3. They then went 3-9 the rest of the way under interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich.

In a recent story of ESPN, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler speculated that the 2024 season with the Jets will be the future Hall of Famer’s last in the National Football League.

“The New York Jets will soon hire a general manager who can make a splash with his first big decision: releasing Rodgers and starting fresh at the game’s most important position. That leaves a 41-year-old, recently injured quarterback without a home,” Jeremy Fowler reported for ESPN.

“To be sure, some from last season’s Jets staff believe Rodgers has something left and might just be eager to prove it. ‘But I’m just trying to think of a logical place for him to play and I can’t think of one,’ an AFC executive said. ‘I’m guessing he doesn’t want to go to a rebuild. And if you’re a contender, I’m not sure they want to take on Aaron Rodgers and all that comes with that. So, he might just come to the conclusion that he’s done.'”

The difficulty that** Aaron Rodgers** faces if he did decide to play next season is that it’s tough to find franchise that would be a good landing spot for him, as he’d need to be joining a team that’s considered to be a quarterback away from Super Bowl contention in addition to being willing to take on the inherent circus that follow Rodgers around.

During the 2024 season, in which Rodgers started in all 17 games for the Jets and led the team to a 5-12 record, the 41-year-old Rodgers completed 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

The Jets are currently searching for both a new general manager and new head coach and have cast quite a wide net, as they’ve interviewed as they’ve interviewed 15 general manager candidates and 12 head coach candidates at the time of this writing.
