Taylor Doll talks with CJ Vogel, who covers the Texas Longhorns for On Texas Football, about the top Texas prospects.
Taylor Doll continues her NFL Draft podcast series by looking at prospects who could be a fit for the Chicago Bears. On her latest Making Monsters on our 2nd City Gridiron channel, she’s joined by CJ Vogel, who covers the Texas Longhorns for On Texas Football. They discuss several players who will be playing on Sundays, including wide receivers Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond, defensive linemen Alfred Collins and Vernon Broughton, but the first Texas player who will come off the board is Kelvin Banks Jr.
Vogel doesn’t understand the talk of moving Banks inside to guard after watching him start at left tackle for three years while playing at a high level against top competition.
“So he was war-tested from the very beginning, and he just withstood every test that he faced, basically. Very, very sturdy in past protection. That is his obvious strength, you know, and there might be a little bend at the waist that he’ll have to kind of iron out whenever he makes it to the NFL.” Vogel continued. “But that’s a guy that didn’t allow really more than two or three sacks in 42 games at Texas. So very sturdy there.”
Defensive tackle Alfred Collins is another player the Bears could target, and Vogel spoke highly of him, too.
“For Alfred, one thing that I thought really stood out to me about his game this year, just being a complete rock in the middle of the defensive line. Not a guy that was moved very easily. He discarded offensive linemen very easily to create plays and running games.”
