NFL Draft Rumors: Patriots’ Pick Not Viewed Highly Around League

The New England Patriots could end up kicking themselves for beating the Buffalo Bills back in January — if they aren’t already.

New England’s decision to fight for that victory could go down as one of the all-time gaffes in franchise history, as it pushed them back in the 2025 NFL Draft from pick No. 1 to pick No. 4.

Why are we being so harsh?

Colorado’s Travis Hunter and Penn State’s Abdul Carter will not be available at No. 4, and according to just about every reporter in the hours leading up to the draft, there isn’t any comparable talent that will be. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini was the latest to share damning information about how the selection is viewed around the NFL, with one evaluator saying the talent available at No. 4 is the same as that available at No. 20.

Yikes!

The Patriots will still have an opportunity to bring in someone who can help, like LSU’s Will Campbell or Missouri’s Armand Membou. Can you argue that this whole process would have been much simpler if they could have just selected Hunter at No. 1, though? No, we can’t either.
