The Seahawks already have a quality pass rusher from Minnesota in Boye Mafe. Here’s Field Gulls’ interview with another Minnesota NFL Draft prospect, Jah Joyner.

Continuing our series of pre-NFL Draft interviews, Field Gulls had the opportunity to interview Jah Joyner, a standout edge rusher from the University of Minnesota. Previously, we interviewed Jackson Slater, an interior offensive lineman from Sacramento State who had twice interviewed with the Seattle Seahawks.

Who is Jah Joyner?

From Senior Bowl measurements:

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 263 lbs

Hand size: 9”

Arm length: 34 1/8”

Wingspan: 81 5/8”

Joyner was a 4-star recruit as an EDGE and initially committed to Boston College as a member of the 2020 recruiting class before decommitting and changing his intention to play for Minnesota. He saw no action during the COVID-19 season, maintaining four years of eligibility before sitting out 2021 after seeing action in just four games. This made Joyner a third-year freshman with the program in 2022 — when he broke through and played in 13 games for the Gophers. Joyner recorded his first career start in 2023, the only game he started that season, and otherwise had 7.5 sacks total.

In 2024, Joyner stepped into a full-time starting role as a fifth-year junior and started all 12 games he played for Minnesota, recording 4.5 sacks. He ended up forgoing one final year of eligibility and accepting an invitation to the 2025 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

Interview

1) What did you think of the Senior Bowl experience?

The Senior Bowl experience was great, I’m glad I was invited and definitely blessed to compete at such a high level. I got to meet a lot of great coaches and players as well.

2) Did any of the Senior Bowl interviews stand out to you?

I thought the Los Angeles Chargers, Washington Commanders, Houston Texans, and Miami Dolphins, also the Seattle Seahawks. I thought those were all elite interviews that stood out to me.

3) Are you satisfied with your performance at the Senior Bowl?

I don’t think anyone can really be satisfied with their performance, even if they feel like they dominated, but for the most part I think I shined and made a mark there. And I felt like I did well.

4) What techniques do you feel most comfortable playing? What is the difference between them for you?

I’m an edge rusher, so if I can be on the edge and play 5-tech and above, I’m fine. But I have no problem moving up the line if I need to rush the QB.

5) Do you believe in/prefer playing a 2-point or 3-point stance?

I played both in high school and college, but I like playing in a 3-point stance.

6) If you had to write a scouting report for yourself, what would you list as your biggest strengths and what are you working on improving?

I think the most important thing when you look at my tape, see where I’ve had the most...
