Taylor Doll talks with Zach Seyko, who covers Penn State football for Locked On Nittany Lions.
On her latest Making Monsters, Taylor Doll is joined by Zach Seyko, who covers Penn State football for Locked On Nittany Lions. Tight end Tyler Warren has been mocked to the Chicago Bears a lot, so they talk about his fit in Ben Johnson’s offense. They also discuss some defensive players, including Abdul Carter and safety Kevin Winston Jr., as well as linebacker Kobe King, and their chances of fitting into the new Dennis Allen defense.
But it’s Warren who Bears fans are intrigued by. He jumped from 34 receptions in 2023 to 104 last year, and Seyko filled us in on what caused the jump.
“So Tyler Warren gets that monster season after there isn’t a battle for reps between three capable NFL players, NFL future starters, all at once at Penn State.”
“He was truly a bulk of probably Penn State, 80 percent of Penn State’s passing attack. And he’s just so versatile. On the same play against USC, he can snap the football, run the streak down the field, and win a jump ball and double, triple coverage practically. He can take direct snaps at quarterback. Is he the most proficient passer? No, but you can do so many things with the trickery of it that this was going to be very appealing to Ben Johnson, who’s just an offensive guru. He’s just an offensive mastermind. So the appeal of Tyler Warren is certainly there, despite Cole Kmet already being in the fold.”
“The Bears certainly have other needs, but they’re addressing them through trades and free agency. So Tyler Warren is kind of that next step to help Caleb Williams, which I think is a slam dunk selection, if they’re able to do it.”
