NFL draft expert Daniel Jeremiah questions how Travis Hunter would hold up if he were to try and play both ways in the league.
And Jeremiah has a clear preference should the Hunter limit himself to one side.
“I’d prefer he prioritize offense and moonlight on defense,” Jeremiah wrote in an NFL.com story ranking the top 50 prospects in April’s draft.
Jeremiah ranked Hunter as the No. 2 prospect behind only Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter.
Hunter averaged 118 snaps per game during his 2024 campaign with the Colorado Buffaloes. He emerged as one of the best wide receivers in college football as he caught 96 balls for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns.
“On offense, he is creative in his release to escape press as a receiver,” Jeremiah wrote. “He is constantly changing gears to keep cornerbacks off balance and he never wastes steps at the top of his route. He drops his weight and explodes out of the break. He has elite body control and hands. He can pluck balls well outside his frame with grace and ease. After the catch, he is silky smooth and elusive. He doesn’t have elite top speed, but he’s fast enough to not get caught.”
Not bad, huh?
It’ll be interesting to see how other NFL evaluators and scouts grade Hunter, and if they agree with Jeremiah’s preference, as the draft process continues.
The New England Patriots, who hold the fourth overall pick, certainly could be among those in the mix for Hunter come April.
