NFL draft rumors, smoke screens and interest have started even before the NFL combine
The Cleveland Browns need a quarterback. A franchise quarterback. After the Deshaun Watson trade ended up backfiring, the team is back to the drawing board once again.
The team has options but they aren’t necessarily the most encouraging options.
In terms of free agency, the veterans available are underwhelming but the NFL draft hasn’t inspired much confidence with the lack of depth. Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders is one of the top two quarterbacks in this upcoming class. From a fit standpoint, Sanders would fit easily in Stefanski’s scheme in terms of his playstyle. However, rumors and news have floated around wondering if Sanders would be open to playing in Cleveland.
Sanders added more fuel to the smoke around him and the Browns in a recent video that was posted by his brother. While in the video, Shedeur was asked about what team he plays with in Madden. His response?
Some Browns fans are seeing this as a good thing viewing this as a move for the “gets us” meter (if you are from Cleveland, you know what this means) others are viewing it in a different sense.
Sanders knows what he’s doing and it’s obvious to those who pay attention closely to things like this. As someone who plays Madden frequently (yes I play video games), the Browns aren’t a team that is that interesting to play with. I am not saying that they are a bad team to play with in the video games but they aren’t the most interesting.
Sanders is essentially telling the two teams that have the most interest in him, believed to be the New York Giants and the Las Vegas Raiders, if you want me then get me. He might not say it openly but he’s saying it in a way that is easy to pick up for those.
Cleveland is doing their due diligence with Sanders, and they will learn more about him during the Scouting Combine next week. Is the interest real or is it a mirage? If I were to bet on this, it would be more of a mirage (or Sanders trying to get selected as high as possible and entice a team to trade up for him) but time will tell.
Do you think the Browns have an interest in Sanders and vice versa or are both playing a game to get the result they want?
