The focus has been on the top of the draft but the Browns have plenty of picks to use late in the draft
The Cleveland Browns will finally be picking in the first round again for the first time in three years. That, combined with the pick being number two overall, has certainly dominated the overall conversation in the lead-up to the draft.
We’ve discussed the quarterbacks and whether to draft Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter ad nauseam to the point we are all ready for the draft to be here already. The Browns have four top 100 picks and six that will take place on day three of the draft, which will also be important for building the roster.
I have spent a significant amount of time over the past several weeks evaluating players who will be drafted in the later rounds and there are some intriguing players who can help Cleveland on both sides of the ball.
Today, let’s examine some players who could be drafted on day three that could help the Browns on defense:
S Hunter Wohler, Wisconsin
Wohler is a solid athlete who played closer to the line of scrimmage and is an above-average tackler. He isn’t great in coverage but does match up well against backs and tight ends. Overall, he plays with intensity and could provide depth at safety while having a big role on special teams.
Draft Projection: 5th round
CB BJ Adams, UCF
Adams is a bit lean, but he has good height and length to play on the outside. He plays physically and is able to close when the ball is in the air. Ultimately, he would be a good developmental prospect for Cleveland with their scheme.
Draft Projection: Late 6th / Early 7th round
DT Zeek Biggers, Georgia Tech
Biggers has the size and traits that would be worth a shot with a late pick. In fact, he had the largest wingspan out of any defensive player at the combine. He can play either the one or three-tech, and while he flashes strength, he struggles to penetrate gaps to cause disruption in the backfield. He is still young and could have a role on special teams as he blocked a total of four field goals during his career.
Draft Projection: Late 6th / Early 7th round
LB Jailin Walker, Indiana
Walker really flashed on tape and played with agility and burst. He tested really well by running a 4.40 40-yard dash and posting great results in his vertical and broad jumps. He will need to get a little bigger and add strength but he is probably my favorite late-round linebacker prospect.
Draft Projection: Late 6th / Early 7th round
DE Ethan Downs, Oklahoma
Downs is probably more of a base end but has tremendous get-off at the snap and has a punch in his hands to knock opposing linemen back at the point of attack. He plays really hard and will be able to help on special teams as...
