Where Abdul Carter and Mike Green sit is impressive in this year’s NFL draft

When it comes to the NFL, the quarterback position has become the epicenter. Get a quarterback, get someone to protect the quarterback, get someone to sack the quarterback, get weapons for your quarterback and get someone to guard those weapons has become the priority shopping list for teams including the Cleveland Browns.

While the Browns have a need at quarterback, this year’s NFL draft may not have a surefire QB for them to select with the second overall pick. Instead, Cleveland has options at the top of the 2025 NFL draft.

With Myles Garrett sticking around, Abdul Carter has become a name that many believe the Browns could be focused on at the top of this year’s draft. The idea of giving Garrett a true running mate, while finding a veteran option at quarterback (along with the chance at a developmental one in the draft), could help turn Cleveland’s fortunes around.

How good is Carter, and Marshall’s Mike Green (who has been highlighted in our Senior Bowl diaries)? The chart below shows both high-quality pass rushers and run defenders:

In case it is helpful, this is a zoomed-in shot of the upper right corner of that graph where you can see Garrett, Joey Bosa, Micah Parsons and Will Anderson among the comparisons for Abdul and Green.

Does that mean the Browns must take Abdul or, should they take a QB with their first pick, position themselves to get Green later? No, but it should give fans confidence that both edge players are going to be impactful.
