Washington visits Detroit in the divisional round of the playoffs

The divisional playoffs start today with an AFC matchup between the Houston Texans and the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, and the rest of Chiefs Kingdom are looking to win their third Super Bowl in a row. CJ Stroud and the Texans are looking for their first trip to a conference championship in franchise history.

The Washington Commanders finished the season with a 12-5 record and they defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week to advance to the divisional round for the first time since 2006. They will now face their biggest test of the season when they travel to Michigan to face the No. 1 seed Detroit Lions. Playing inside the dome at Ford Field will offer its own set of challenges for the team, but they will need to focus on slowing Detroit’s offense, and scoring on every drive against their defense.

Jayden Daniels was masterful on Washington’s game-winning drive last week, and the Commanders ball-control strategy kept Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers offense off the field for most of the game. The Lions are a much better team than the Bucs, and Washington will need top performances from all three phases of the game to advance to their first conference championship game since 1992.

The Washington Commanders opened as road underdogs at +8.5, and that line is now up to +9.5. The over/under has opened at 55.5, and its still the highest for the divisional round. Washington entered the playoffs as the 6th seed, and now look to knock off the NFC’s top team. A win today will move them on to the NFC title game against the winner of Sunday’s Los Angeles Rams vs Philadelphia Eagles game. What a season it’s been!
