One notable NFL analyst believes the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers could be a perfect landing spot for a recent first-round pick with Pro Bowl potential.
We are just a few weeks away from the start of 2025 training camps around the NFL. For most organizations, their rosters are set, and camp will determine depth charts. However, there is still the chance for notable talents who may be without a role to be traded by their current teams.

That is the situation for 2022 fifth overall selection, Kayvon Thibodeaux. He is in serious danger of losing a lot of playing time this year with Pro Bowler Brian Burns and first-round selection Abdul Carter blocking him on the depth chart. That is why ESPN NFL analyst Aaron Schatz believes it would be in the New York Giants’ best interest to move him this summer.
“Yes, New York can use an edge rusher rotation and get plenty of value out of him,” Schatz wrote. “It can create a NASCAR-style package where one of its edge rushers moves inside on third down. But the Giants can also trade Thibodeaux to a contender that needs help on the edge, such as the Packers or the Lions, and probably get a Day 2 pick in return.
“More draft capital would be a huge help for 2026 when they’ll be trying to find as many strong offensive players as possible to build around quarterback Jaxson Dart and wide receiver Malik Nabers.”
Schatz does make an interesting case. With the Giants having a wealth of talent on the edge, they should do all they can to add more roster-building assets to improve other spots. Injuries have been a notable problem in two of Thibodeaux’s first three seasons. However, when fully healthy in 2023, the former Oregon star posted an impressive 11.5 sacks.
Both the Packers and Lions would certainly welcome the chance to add a player like that. As they hope to make a run at a Super Bowl berth this season.
