Could Russell Wilson be heading to the Big Apple? ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler thinks the New York Giants could be an ideal landing spot for the 10-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion.
Wilson visited with the Giants last offseason before signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, so Fowler thinks the Giants could make a run at him again.
“I’m told he still loves Pittsburgh, had a great experience there, that would be his priority if he’s ranking teams to potentially sign with,” Fowler said. “Now, the wild card there will be Justin Fields and see if the Steelers prefer to bring back the younger option.
“But Wilson himself should have options too. Talking to some ex-Seattle aides, they said that Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson have pieced it up, so maybe Las Vegas could shake out for him. I’m also told the Giants are considered a sleeper option for Russell Wilson.”
Being in the New York City market also makes a ton of sense for Wilson and his wife Ciara, who’s singer, songwriter, dancer, actress, and record producer. Wilson and Ciara were just recently on a date in NYC.
Paul Schwartz of the New York Post wrote that if the Giants sign a quarterback like Wilson, it could change their draft strategy entirely.
The Giants have the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns are also in need of a quarterback (the Deshaun Watson experiment has been a disaster).
Justin Fields could also be an option for the G-Men.
“I think Justin would be a better option than most for New York because he’s athletic,” an AFC pro personnel scout told Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post. “They are going to struggle to protect the quarterback unless they do an overhaul of the offensive line.
“He has the ability to improvise and make some off-schedule plays and maybe make it work. His skill set may be close to what (Brian) Daboll wants to do offensively.”
The Steelers would like to sign one of their two incumbent quarterbacks to a long-term contract this offseason, president Art Rooney II said during his annual press conference with local beat writers.
Rooney said that he think it’s unlikely that the Steelers will sign both of them, and that his preference would be for more than the one-year deal both players played under in 2024.
