From experienced veterans like Alvin Kamara, elite young players like Bijan Robinson, and dynamic duos like Bucky Irving and Rachaad White, the NFC South isn’t short on running back talent. As we head into the new season, here’s a look at how the NFC South’s top running backs rank right now.

Robinson is one of the most talented running back prospects in recent memory. In his short two-year career, the Atlanta Falcons star has already solidified himself as one of the best backs in the league. Last season, he recorded 1,456 rushing yards, which ranked third in the entire NFL. At only 23 years old, describing his future as exciting is a serious understatement. He very well could challenge Saquon Barkley for the best running back in the league.
Tyler Allgeier, on the other hand, is one of the best RB2s in the entire league. He rushed for 644 yards in 2024 and, as a rookie, produced over 1,000 yards. If Robinson misses time, Allgeier would step in seamlessly. This is the deepest backfield in the NFC South, and there could be an argument for them to be the best running back duo in years to come.

One of the best running back duos in the entire league, Irving and White combined for over 1,700 rushing yards. Irving rushed for over 1,100 yards by himself and has emerged as a legit RB1 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There aren’t many running back duos that complement each other as well as White and Irving do, and they likely would be number one in the rankings for many other NFL divisions.
For his part, White rushed for 613 yards, a step down from his 990 yards last season. But when you pair that with Irving’s production, there are only so many yards to go around. It’ll be interesting to see if these two can maintain their high production as a duo, or if Irving will continue to break out on his own and solidify himself as one of the best backs in the league.

Kamara remains one of the best running backs in the league and has been a star for the New Orleans Saints the past eight years. But this will be Kamara’s ninth season in the NFL and his high usage both rushing and receiving raises some concerns. He’s turning 30 next month, and health is an increasing issue. They lack depth in the backfield, which could lead to another season with a large workload for Kamara.
Currently listed as RB2, Kendre Miller managed only 148 rushing yards in 2024. If Kamara misses time, it’s likely the Saints will scramble through the...
