NFC Hot Seat Rumors: Jonathan Gannon, Drew Petzing, Bears, Cardinals, Packers, Rams
NFL Trade Rumors
Bears
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler identifies Bears OC Declan Doyle as an up-and-coming coach on the offensive side of the ball to watch for play-calling offensive coordinator vacancies this cycle, and perhaps even some head coaching interviews.
Cardinals
When examining potential head coaching vacancies this offseason, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN writes that the Cardinals’ situation is “complicated,” as some within Arizona’s coaching staff are “cautiously optimistic” that HC Jonathan Gannon will return in 2026, while others in the coaching industry believe Gannon will stay put.
Fowler notes that owner Michael Bidwill likes Gannon and the Cardinals’ 2025 woes can be attributed to their injuries and lack of a “hand-picked quarterback.”
At the general manager spot, Fowler cites people around the league who think GM Monti Ossenfort‘s job is safe.
PHNX Sports’ Johnny Venerable says all signs continue to point toward Gannon returning for another season in 2026. However, Venerable expects OC Drew Petzing and ST coordinator Jeff Rodgers to be fired.
Packers
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN believes Packers DC Jeff Hafley will get a head coaching job in the next hiring cycle and has “some traction” for the Giants’ vacancy.
Fowler reports that he’s heard “a few times” that Hafley is being linked to New York and expects him to be on their shortlist.
Rams
Dan Graziano of ESPN expects Rams DC Chris Shula to be a top head coaching candidate this offseason.
Graziano could see the Titans being interested in Shula if he’s able to identify the right offensive coordinator to help develop QB Cam Ward.
According to Fowler, Shula has been on the radar around the NFL as an emerging candidate.
Fowler also thinks Los Angeles pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase could draw interest.
