New York Jets star could be a ‘prime’ trade candidate

The New York Jets are completely revamped heading into the 2025 NFL season, with a new head coach, general manager, and starting quarterback. The Jets feel confident about their new direction under GM Darren Mougey, coach Aaron Glenn, and QB Justin Fields, but they know there is a lot of work to do to improve upon their 5-12 record from last season.

Despite all the potential upgrades, there’s no guarantee the Jets will be any better in 2025. In fact, there’s a possibility they get similar, or even worse results. If the Jets’ season once again starts to spiral out of control early on, it’s possible some of their aging talents will hit the trade block.

Specifically, ESPN’s Jets insider Rich Cimini believes starting running back Breece Hall could be a “prime candidate” to be dealt by the NFL trade deadline.

The Jets do like their young group of running backs, led by Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis. They also have Kene Nwangwu, Donovan Edwards, and Zach Evans competing for a roster spot. If the Jets really like what they see in their RB room, a trade involving Hall can’t be ruled out, possibly sooner rather than later.

Hall is headed into the final year of his rookie contract, so the Jets may prefer getting a draft pick for him rather than committing to paying him an expensive contract. Thus, if another, younger back emerges in the rotation, Hall’s days in New York could be numbered.
