When the Pittsburgh Steelers started the season with a 4-1 record, the NFL world was clowning on the New York Jets for essentially running him out of town earlier in the year. Since they’ve gone 2-3 over their last five games, however, that mockery has been toned down a bit.

While the hapless New York Jets certainly deserve a whole lot of criticism for virtually every choice they make, it’s looking like their decision regarding Aaron Rodgers might have been the right one.

The Jets are entirely non-competitive this season, which certainly would not have changed with a soon-to-be 42-year-old Rodgers at the helm, who is averaging career lows in passing yards per game, passing success rate, depth of target, and big-time throw rate.

The stats provided are advanced stats, however, and leave out the fact that he’s tied for fifth in the NFL in touchdown passes with 19, and is also quarterbacking a first place team — although their one-game lead over the Ravens in the AFC North is looking increasingly tenuous with each passing week.

Even when they were leading the Ravens in the standings by multiple games, the sportsbooks clearly never fully bought in to Rodgers’ Steelers are the Ravens remained the betting favorites to win the division all the while.

Unlike his time with the Jets, however, where he was appearing on The Pat McAfee Show weekly to make a further spectacle out of himself and his team, Rodgers ceased making his routine appearances on the program and has kept a much lower profile.
