The New York Jets are expected to move on from QB Aaron Rodgers this offseason. The marriage has fallen apart after the franchise brought the passer in ahead of the 2023 campaign.

In those two years, the Jets have gone just 12-22. Rodgers was 6-12 as a starter and brought about more headaches than solutions when it came to the team’s success.

Off-field distractions played a large role in those issues. Divides were reportedly seen involving the team, coaching staff, and ownership.

An “irreparable” relationship with Woody Johnson surfaced after the team’s 2024 campaign. Rodgers’ pass catchers were reportedly salty, too. Some media members went as far as to suggest the quarterback played a part in the firing of head coach Robert Saleh.

All of that, on its own, would’ve been enough for the organization to decide it was time to move on. His offseason ayahuasca trips and weekly media appearances only provided more fuel.

Aaron Rodgers has been a mainstay on the Pat McAfee Show. A frequent guest, he speaks on football and culture with the former NFL punter both in and out of the season.

The Jets reportedly wanted those appearances to end. They’re said to have given Rodgers an ultimatum in respect to his future. If he wanted to return as the starting signal caller, he’d no longer be able to join the show.

“I was told that when they had conversations with Aaron Rodgers about what the future would look like, if you’re going to be part of this team, you’re going to attend all of training camp. You’re not going to do Pat McAfee interviews anymore…

“They had a conversation with him of, ‘If you were to stay here, here is how we would want it to be.’ So, this to me is Aaron Glenn getting control back.”

Now, that wasn’t likely the deciding factor in the Jets’ choice to move on. Still, it was a talking point as the team wanted the focus to be on football.

With New York likely cutting ties, Aaron Rodgers has a decision to make about his future. Will he hang up the cleats for good or will the 41-year-old look for another new home in 2025?
