New York Jets fans thought the Aaron Rodgers era was bad. Then, the year 2025 was like, hold my beer.
The truth is, everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong for the Jets in Aaron Glenn’s first season as head coach. After their 48-20 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday, the 3-11 Jets enter their Week 16 matchup against the New Orleans Saints ranking 27th in scoring and 30th in points allowed.
Now, one of their players has decided he’s had enough.
According to Jordan Schultz, wide receiver Allen Lazard has requested his release from the team. On Tuesday, the Jets granted Lazard’s request by placing the 30-year-old receiver on release waivers.
Any team can now claim the 6-foot-5 receiver, and the Pittsburgh Steelers are one to keep an eye on, thanks to Lazard’s relationship with Aaron Rodgers after being teammates for eight combined seasons with the Green Bay Packers and Jets.
Though, Lazard hasn’t been particularly productive in New York this season (who has?). He’s been active for ten games, receiving two starts along the way. Yet, he’s only recorded 10 receptions on 18 targets, taking them for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Teams will now have the opportunity to claim the remainder of Lazard’s $2.25 million contract, though he’s reportedly prioritizing the chance to join a contending team, which could put the 8-6 Steelers in play.
