Seven consecutive losses by the New York Jets have the team considering changes. Though after Jets owner Woody Johnson’s public criticism of Justin Fields, it’s probably fitting that the team switches things up.
According to ESPN’s Jets insider Rich Cimini, New York is “planning a quarterback change.”
While they didn’t say it. This means Fields will be getting benched for 36-year-old veteran journeyman Tyrod Taylor.
The one-time Pro Bowler has made three appearances (one start) this season in New York. He’s in his 15th season, but the Jets were hoping to see Fields live up to his potential as a first-round pick. Instead, we’ve seen Fields rank as one of the NFL’s worst quarterbacks this season. Getting benched was only a matter of time.

Of course, this was not the result the Jets had in mind when signing Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract in free agency this past offseason. While they’ll get another year to work with the 26-year-old, the Jets will clearly be bringing in more competition when the offseason gets underway.
Who knows, with a bit of luck, they may find their next franchise quarterback. Or maybe the Jets will take a chance on another reclamation project, only to see him have more success elsewhere, like Sam Darnold or Baker Mayfield.
Meanwhile, the Steelers look like they could be in position to compete for a playoff spot, with former Jets QB Aaron Rodgers leading the way. In other words, the Jets made some bad decisions at the QB position this offseason.
Taylor’s next start will come against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. He’ll then have a bye week to work with the first-string offense before facing the Cleveland Browns on November 9. Unless the Jets make another QB change. The only other QB in New York is undrafted rookie Brady Cook, who’s on the practice squad.
