Gang Green Nation
The New York Jets will play their final home game of this season when they take on the New England Patriots on Sunday. The Jets have just two home wins this season, and a third on Sunday does not seem particularly likely. The Patriots at 12-3 are tied with the Seattle Seahawks for the second best record in the NFL. One thing this Patriots team represents for the Jets is hope. A year ago the Patriots were one of the worst and least talented teams in the NFL. They finished last in the AFC East with a 4-13 record. A year later they are vying for the best record in the NFL.
The Jets situation this year is different, as every team’s situation is different from every other team. The biggest differences are at quarterback and head coach, where the Patriots had Drake Maye struggling a bit in his rookie year last year and Jerod Mayo out of his depth at head coach. The Patriots now have Mike Vrabel at head coach, and Maye is now a star. The Jets have no credible quarterback on the team this season. Aaron Glenn has shown little as a head coach. Those differences make a Patriots-style turnaround unlikely for the Jets next season. Nonetheless, the Patriots, along with many other teams over the years, are proof that turnarounds need not take long in the NFL. Draft well, find a quarterback and some good coaching, and things can go from bleak to bright very quickly. Here’s hoping the Jets stumble on the right formula soon.
