The New York Jets signed quarterback Hendon Hooker to the practice squad yesterday. Hooker is in just his third season in the NFL, but he will turn 28 years old in less than four weeks. Hooker has thrown nine passes in the NFL. Needless to say this is unlikely to be a signing with significant upside. Rather, this appears to be a case of the Jets signing an emergency backup with whom they have some familiarity from Hooker’s time with the Detroit Lions. With Brady Cook starting at quarterback on Sunday, if Hooker is the backup this would be arguably the worst duo ever to man the starting and primary backup quarterback positions in a Jets game. That would be less than ideal, unless you’re a tank commander.
