The New York Jets gave an early holiday gift to tight end Jeremy Ruckert yesterday when they extended his contract for two years and $10 million. It’s easy to see why the Jets felt urgency to lock up this “building block,” as some publications have labeled Ruckert. After all, it’s not like blocking tight ends who suck at blocking and put up 427 receiving yards in four years grow on trees. You simply can’t let a player like this test the waters. Losing a player like this to free agency would be a devastating blow from which this team might never recover. Therefore, lock him up.
