Good morning Gang Green Nation! One day after the Jets inked Garrett Wilson to a four-year contract extension the Jets struck again, agreeing to terms with Sauce Gardner on a four-year, $120+ million extension. Gardner’s extension makes him the highest paid cornerback in NFL history in terms of average dollars per year. The back-to-back extensions of Wilson and Gardner wrap up what appears to be a thoughtful and well executed offseason plan by the new Jets regime. The Jets also extended Jamien Sherwood for three years this offseason. Combine those three extensions with Quinnen Williams’ extension executed under the prior regime and the Jets have a bunch of their home-grown best players under contract for years to come. After decades of not retaining top talent, this seems like a clean break from the Jets failures of the past. We’ll see how successful the new regime is in the coming years, but for now the approach feels like a breath of fresh air.
