Bringing your daily links to the NFL’s New York Jets

Good morning Gang Green Nation! It probably comes as no surprise that the New York Jets offensive weapons are not in high regard among many analysts. A team with no credible receivers beyond Garrett Wilson and no credible tight ends beyond an unproven rookie in Taylor Mason will need a lot of surprises to the upside to even rank average-ish in the NFL. ESPN has the Jets non-QB offensive weapons ranked 27th in the NFL, just ahead of the Buffalo Bills. That seems in the right ballpark.

If the Jets are intending to develop Justin Fields or his eventual replacement as a potential long term answer at quarterback, they are going to need some upgrades among the receivers and tight ends. The Jets chose not to even attempt to fill every hole this offseason, taking a measured approach in free agency, but by this time next year one would hope to see a much improved set of weapons supporting Justin Fields or whomever the Jets might acquire to replace him. Failing that, they will risk falling into the same trap they have found themselves in for years, trying to develop a young quarterback without the supporting cast needed for success.

At least the Jets have apparently solved one issue that has plagued them in recent years. Assuming Armand Membou pans out, the Jets appear to have a young and talented offensive line for the first time in ages. That will certainly make developing a young quarterback easier than it has been in a long time. Now if they can just address the pass catching weapons, who knows, maybe the Jets will soon have a quarterback and an offense that for once does not seem outmatched going into almost every game. One can hope.
