Good morning Gang Green Nation! Another day, another big name receiver mentioned as a possible New York Jets acquisition. This time it’s Washington Commanders’ star receiver Terry McLaurin, who is reportedly frustrated at the lack of progress on a new contract. While McLaurin is an excellent receiver who would make a formidable wide receiver duo with Garrett Wilson, I think the chances of this actually happening are pretty remote. The Commanders have legitimate championship aspirations, and trading a player as good as McLaurin would not be something they’d likely embrace unless McLaurin forces the issue with a prolonged holdout. In addition, the Jets would take on nearly $20 million in cap hit for McLaurin in 2025. That’s a reasonable enough number for a receiver of his caliber, but it might not be something the Jets would go for considering they are in discussions for two mega-deals with Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson. McLaurin also turns 30 years old in September, and he is looking for a new deal. The Jets would surely not pull another Reddick type deal where they’d trade for McLaurin without an extension already agreed to. Would the Jets be willing to sign McLaurin to a big extension as part of the trade? I don’t know, but put all the obstacles for this deal together and it sure seems like a long shot. It’s not completely out of the question, but I personally doubt the Jets will even get to the point of serious trade negotiations with the Commanders for McLaurin.
