Bringing your daily links to the NFL’s New York Jets
Good morning Gang Green Nation! The NFL recently announced a larger than expected increase in the 2025 NFL salary cap. Superficially this is good news for the Jets, as they get a bit more cap space to work with this offseason. However, all 31 other NFL teams also get more cap space to work with. More cap space for every team chasing the same finite group of players equals inflation in player prices. This makes any advantage the increased cap space might give a team largely illusory, as the increased space will be largely offset by the increased player prices. As of now the market has yet to reset to reflect the increased cap space league wide. It’s possible a quick acting team can extend some of their own players at what will eventually come to look like good prices as the league catches up with the new salary cap. That might create a small opportunity for a few team friendly deals if a team acts quickly, but for the most part the annual tradition of a rising salary cap does little to improve teams’ cap situations. Inflation kinda sucks that way.
