Good morning Gang Green Nation! The New York Jets are hiring Rick Spielman as a senior football advisor. He’ll be tasked with helping to revamp football operations for the Jets, along with acting as a sounding board for head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey. The optics here aren’t great. Spielman was a key player with the 33rd Team in conducting the recent Jets’ searches for a new head coach and general manager. That he ends up finding a place for himself in the organization is a bit unorthodox, to say the least. Nevertheless, the Jets have a head coach and a general manager who are both new to their respective job titles. An experienced person to lean on at times and to bounce ideas off of could be a valuable asset. The 62 year old Spielman is a two time NFL general manager, first with the Miami Dolphins, then with the Minnesota Vikings. Together with former NFL general manager Phil Savage, who remains an advisor with the team, the Jets now have a wealth of NFL experience for Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey to lean on as they grow into their new jobs.
