The New York Jets are still winless after six games, which means several players on their roster will be linked to trade rumors until the deadline arrives on the Tuesday following Week 9. Meanwhile, Breece Hall trade rumors have long lingered, even dating back to when the Jets weren’t competitive last season too.
While Hall is a good running back, and the Jets could use more good players, he’s also in the last year of his contract and is due for a sizable raise. Yet, his trade situation is a bit tricky, considering he recently stated that he wants to remain with the Jets.
That’s great to hear from a star player on a losing team, but NFL general managers often don’t get involved in an athlete’s feelings. They’re more focused on adding draft capital and building the best roster possible, and right now, the Jets obviously aren’t good enough.
However, Hall now also has the full support of his head coach, Aaron Glenn too. Speaking with the media on Wednesday, Glenn once again insisted that he’d prefer Hall sticks around as his starting running back, rather than see him traded to a different team.
Glenn had previously addressed the trade rumors regarding Hall back in August, and he wants everyone to know that his stance hasn’t changed one bit.
“They’re rumors. I still feel the same way,” Glenn said.
Hall has already recorded two 100-yard rushing performances this season, and he’s performed pretty well in the Jets’ other four games too. He’s up to 410 yards on 88 rush attempts, averaging an impressive 4.7 yards per carry. He’s also averaging another 25 yards per game as a receiver, showcasing his ability to run or be effective as a pass-catcher out of the backfield.
That type of versatility would play well in any offense, which may be why the Jets aren’t in a rush to see what they can get in return. Though, with Hall seemingly wanting to stick around in New York, why should the Jets entertain trade offers for the talented 24-year-old? Why create more needs? Doesn’t this team have enough?
