New York Jets Close to Hiring Former NFL Head Coach, Super Bowl Winner

After the New York Jets finished tied for the fewest wins in the NFL, it’s no surprise that Aaron Glenn cut ties with several coaches from his first-ever coaching staff. Now, Glenn is starting to rebuild his staff, hoping to put a better product on the field in 2026.

Sometimes, the best hires are the ones you never see coming. That could be the case with the Jets’ latest hire.

According to SNYtv’s insider Connor Hughes, “things are progressing” between Frank Reich and the Jets. They’re trying to get a contract done to have Reich join coach Glenn’s staff, but nothing is guaranteed.

If hired, Reich is expected to take over playcalling duties from offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, who has already been demoted, but his exact role/title remains to be seen. Reich is not expected to receive the title of offensive coordinator.

Reich once won a Super Bowl as the offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles, but he didn’t call plays for them. Either way, his experience, which includes being a two-time NFL head coach, would bring extreme value to Glenn’s staff.

Reich led the Indianapolis Colts to a 40-33-1 record from 2018 to 2022. Then he took over as the Carolina Panthers’ head coach, but was relieved of his duties after leading them to a 1-10 record in 2023.

The 64-year-old coach spent the 2025 season as Stanford’s interim head coach, where he got to work closely with his former QB Andrew Luck, who operates as the team’s general manager. Yet, this would give Reich a chance to return to the NFL, where he also once won a Super Bowl as a player too.
