All bets are off for the New York Jets this season. Last year, Jets owner Woody Johnson fired Robert Saleh because he felt the head coach wasn’t getting enough out of a talented roster.
Now we’re seeing first-year head coach Aaron Glenn get even worse results. As Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline approaches, one can’t help but wonder if the Jets are coming closer to pressing the reset button again. Or at least trying to grab more draft capital to avoid a similar fate next year.
To no surprise, Jets trade rumors are flying all over the place after a 1-7 start, even after they snagged their first win last Sunday. Now as they head into the bye, the Jets have no reason not to be sellers, some even think they could trade one of their very best players.
Specifically, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Jets are willing to listen to trade offers for All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, for the right price.
Of course, it would likely take a massive offer to pry the 27-year-old three-time Pro Bowler out of New York’s hands. Yet, the fact that they’re even open to listening to offers suggests there could be a path to a deal.
The Jets may not believe Justin Fields is their QB of the future, and while they’re in position to land a top-five draft pick, securing more top-100 selections would only improve their odds of landing the team’s next franchise QB. Yet, is trading a proven superstar like Williams worth it? That’s what the Jets will have to determine, depending on the trade offers.
