Former New York Jets linebacker CJ Mosley has announced his retirement ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

Mosley, a five-time Pro Bowler, turns 33 today. He marked his birthday with a major update, telling CBS Sports he plans to hang it up while sharing a video showing some of his best plays to his Instagram account, which he captioned “Once upon a time.”

The 33-year-old was a free agent after the Jets released him in March.

While he was an important part of the locker room, he missed 13 games last season due to neck and toe injuries and lost his place in the starting defensive lineup, with Jamien Sherwood taking over.

New York Jets Make Moves To Replace CJ Mosley

Mosley, who had three consecutive Pro Bowl seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, signed a five-year deal worth $85 million with the Jets in 2019 after a five-year stint in Baltimore.

He only played two games in his first season due to a groin injury and chose to sit out the following year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The former Alabama star registered 168 tackles the following campaign, followed up with 158 the next, and then 152 thereafter. He made his fifth Pro Bowl in 2022 and was selected as a second-team All-Pro.

He’s set to retire with 1,083 tackles, 12 sacks, 12 interceptions, 10 forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, and three touchdowns to his name.

The Jets have made moves to fill the void left by his exit, drafting Francisco Mauigoa in the fifth round this year. They have also signed three undrafted free agents and agreed to a three-year deal with Sherwood.

We wish CJ Mosley all the best in retirement.
