The New York Giants have agreed to terms to sell a minority stake in the franchise Julia Koch and other members of the Koch family, per a report from Bloomberg.
It was first announced in February that John Mara and Steve Tisch were exploring the sale of an ownership stake. This came after the NFL owners voted to allow private equity firms to purchase as much as 10% stakes. Giants’ great Eli Manning was the first potential buyer linked to the sale after he expressed a hypothetical interest in January.
It was reported in late April that Manning was indeed putting together a pool of investors to make a bid on the ownership stake.
It was also reported in early May that Michael Strahan, another great and one of Manning’s teammates, was putting together a competing bid.
Ultimately, the (reported) $750 million price tag was too rich for Manning or Strahan and they both dropped out of the bidding. That, however, is pocket change for Julia Koch, who’s personal fortune is reportedly in the neighborhood of $74 billion.
