Football can lift you up and break you down at the same time. Giants TJ Moore lived both sides of that truth Thursday night at MetLife Stadium. One moment he was celebrating a pick-six. The next, he lay on the turf with his leg bent the wrong way, teammates rushing to surround him.
It’s been a rough stretch of injury scares for the Giants lately, and fans already felt uneasy after recent news surrounding Malik Nabers. Moore’s situation only deepened the concern. The undrafted rookie looked like he had secured his roster shot with a dream play. Then, in an instant, his season and maybe more fell apart.
Moore gave the Giants a push in the third quarter when he jumped a route near midfield and returned the interception 44 yards for a touchdown. His teammates celebrated him. For an undrafted rookie out, it was the kind of play that turns heads in preseason.
But in the fourth quarter, everything shifted. While covering a punt, Moore planted awkwardly and his right leg snapped in half. He screamed in pain as teammates waved for trainers. Players formed a circle around him as medical staff worked quickly.

According to the New York Daily News‘ Pat Leonard, Quarterbacks Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and rookie Jaxson Dart stepped in to help Moore onto the cart. His leg was stabilized before the cart carried him off. Minutes later, an ambulance went into the tunnel and Moore was put onto a stretcher for faster medical support.
The energy in the building flipped instantly. A 42-10 win over the Patriots and solid play from Dart and even Tommy DeVito suddenly felt nothing.
Giants made a few big roster moves for this season. Brian Daboll finalized his quarterback plans after bringing in Dart through the draft, and build up a better lineup. But everything remains in question after some really bad injuries that Giants face back to back.
The Giants have yet to announce the extent of the injury. But from the looks on his teammates’ faces, it’s one that could define his season.
